for the interested

The September 2007 issue of Gourmet has an article on Hispanic eateries in the Triangle . . . it makes me homesick!

  1. you're homesick? at least you live in florida, where the hispanic population is plentiful! not sure what it was like on your coast of PA, but the mexican food in philly and its environs sucks! actually, that's not quite accurate; there are plenty of good hispanic restaurants in philadelphia. it's just that they're all fine dining and so the entrees are 30 bucks apiece. no cheap eats around here. best to stick with a cheesesteak or a pork sandwich.

i am actually not a huge fan of mexican food (i know--heresy!), but i do miss it. and my girlfriend cites the dearth of good mexican restaurants as clearly the worst thing about living here. so i'll pass this article citation along to her!

it's significant that, as far as i can tell, the only time i've heard a story about latinos in pennsylvania are 1) when the dude at pat's steaks put up that stupid sign, "this is america! speak english!" and 2) when hazelton, pa decided to throw the constitution to the wind and ban immigration.

    thanks for the article!

  2. DUDE. I live in NORTH Florida, which is really South Georgia, where there are no Hispanics to speak of. Miami is a far different creature. We don't have any good Mexican places here, let alone, like, Dominican.

Pittsburgh isn't much different, but I guess years of living in NC spoiled me.
