L.M. Montgomery's The Blue Castle
This is my all-time favorite Montgomery book--the one that's moved with me from dorm room to apartment to other apartments--b/c I think I related to Valancy more than any other heroine. And I still love the end that wraps up everything in a perfect little bow!
I love Valancy, too. The portrait of her life before she thinks she is going to die is so bleak, but don't you want to move to wherever that little house is and live like they do? Such a sweet story.
ReplyDeleteWhat I really think is interesting about the end is that she and Barney are going off on adventures, traveling to Europe, etc--when you'd think it'd end with her having some "fat little babies" as she wanted in the beginning of the book. It's kind of a modern ending for 1926--postpone babies, let's have some fun!
