Gratuitous kitty picture! Now you see why my couch cushions are all misshapen.

I hadn't seen JB in like an hour and got worried--but he was safely curled up on a set of sheets on top of the washing machine!
I took a brief hiatus from reading yesterday and today, b/c the new Terry Pratchett book comes out tomorrow and I didn't want to start something else (the other new book I have is the new David Grossman, which is longish, and which I didn't want to abandon partway through for Tiffany Aching). Expect a new book entry by tomorrow night!

Gratuitous kitty pic! I stopped playing fetch w/ him and apparently the appropriate response was to shred a roll of toilet paper (I was watching tv and didn't even notice). Here, he's all tuckered out from his badness!

blah blah
Who has time for reading (or blogging about reading) when movers are coming in less than a week???
Here's a few things to whet your appetites.
Ron Rash's Serena, which I loved, is getting good press and was one of Janet Maslin's top ten books of 2008 (I like all of her fiction picks, actually). No idea if it'll make my top whatever--but it for sure is a strong contender.
Pitt brought dogs to campus to help ease the tension of finals week. Puppies make everything better. Speaking of animals, JB is biting my feet--HARD--in an effort to get my attention, so I gotta run. OW.

jerks
I'm kind of sad about the responses to this Gawker post. That professor is totally right! Cake is AWESOME.
Maybe I'm overly sensitive to remarks about cat ladies now that I own a cat . . . and bought him two new bags of squishy balls after work today, since I arbitrarily decided that May 1st is his birthday. Sigh. To my credit, I did not divulge that to the chatty clerk at Petco.

cats
I think I'm officially a cat lady, because I just got this and spent nearly every page giggling and thinking, "My cat is just like that!"
Never thought I'd like a book about cats . . . or something so silly from Jeffrey Brown, for that matter.
