Laura Amy Schultz’s The Winter of the Dollhouse
I don’t read a ton of middle-grade fiction these days, but I remembered liking books by this author, and lost—I LOOOOVE dollhouses. I’m not gonna get into it at length here but I had a beloved childhood dollhouse with electricity and I miss it! Anyway, this story involves a girl who loves a doll in the window of the dollhouse store, the doll who longs to be adopted by the girl (this is a Toy Story-esque world where the dolls have adventures and chat with animals when no one is looking and I love it), and the older woman recovering from surgery who hires the girl to walk her dog. Lots of lovely little moments and I teared up more than once. Just a really NICE and satisfying story. A.
