i don't really like either of the two books in my to-read pile (i think it's one of those things where i have to be in the mood to read them).
if you have any recommendations, please send them my way! free time is just around the corner and i will need plenty of books to get me through the chilly winter. :)

hee! as you apparently know, anonymous poster, i do love pirates, but i'm not sure how riveting those tales would be . . .
d'oh! t'was me. The Amazon review of the book actually makes it sound vaguely cool. I'm looking at a decidedly uncool book from the same seller (Perspectives on Canadian Population). (MIke)

What are the books you don't want to read?
john: i've already read both of kimmel's novels, the trillin, and the garcia marquez--but since i loved all of those, i'll definitely check out your other recommendations. :)
the books i don't want to read are the second jasper fforde/thursday next book (my mom got it for me--i liked the first one well enough but never saw the need for sequels, and i can't stand how hard he tries to be clever) and the new book of short stories by james morrow (which makes me feel traitorous, and which i will probably pick back up and try again soon).
I just came across your site recently, so I'm not real familiar with your tastes, but the last few books I read and enjoyed include:
Chitra Divakaruni's Arranged Marriage: Stories,
Augusten Burroughs' Running With Scissors,
Steinbeck's "East of Eden" (my first reading of it);
I'd enjoy reading your opinion of any of these.
i'm pretty sure i've read the steinbeck, but if i have, it was when i was like 15, so i guess i'm due for a rereading. :) i've heard good things about the other two so maybe i'll check them out. by the way, who are you? :)
