religious mumbo-jumbo

i called my mom to bitch about the lack of passover products in the triangle (on the plus side, spending 1 and a half hours hunting down cake mix--in vain--meant i got to listen to the entirety of disc two of the this american life cd christina is letting me borrow) and she informed me that they were about to announce the new pope. so i just got to watch cardinal something-or-other, all in red, announce that the german dude is the new pope (joseph ratzinger? something like that, he was speaking italian, you know). dang, i was totally rooting for the one from honduras. anyway, in case you didn't know, there's a new pope now, named benedict xvi. congrats, catholics!

Not Jewish, but when I lived in Ohio I looked forward to Passover because you could occasionally find Cokes in the grocery stores made with real sugar rather than corn syrup.

Not so in the Triangle, but (and this will likely come as little consolation to anyone trying to keep Kosher) last time I checked Carrburitos and a few other places carry glass-bottle Cokes from Mexico, which also use real sugar.

At any rate, some sites I found in my initial searching suggest that the Kroger off 15-501, near New Hope Commons is one of the better bets for finding Passover foods. YMMV

yeah, that was one of the krogers i stopped by today, but apparently it's the third durham kroger that has the cake mix i seek. alas.

i'm from squirrel hill, the jewish area of pittsburgh, so i'm saddened not to be able to find all that stuff here. i'll definitely check for the cokes at carrburritos next time i'm there, though. :)

i don't really believe this. but thanks for giving me occasion to say it. i've been carrying that one around all day.

this new pope does seem like a total jerk, but i don't really follow catholicism enough to judge.
