We went to see 300 tonight, and I really liked it! Sure, it was uber-violent, but that was balanced out by really over-the-top acting, a drag-queen-looking villain, and plenty of man candy. The battle scenes were straight out of the Lord of the Rings movies, and I'm not just saying that b/c Faramir was one of the cod-piece-sportin' Spartans. King dude's wife was a total bad-ass, too. All around an enjoyable movie, and the cinematography was amazing.

facist! :)
huh??
the general critical response to this movie is that it is pro-war.
it's pretty warm outside today, so i may go see it.
yeah, now that you say that, it's probably true. the movie is all gung-ho about fighting for "liberty", plus the villains are all dark-skinned (which is somewhat historically inaccurate, to say the least).
but again, i was mainly watching for the dudes in codpieces.
just read a report in the new york times that says you weren't the only one going to see it this weekend--it had the largest grossing of a march release EVA.
didn't go see it today--i may wait for the hype to die down.
do you like frank miller? as a rule, i find his stuff to be gratuitously violent. i think the only thing i like by him is "batman year one," which is much more subdued than the hyperviolent "dark night" series and "sin city." what do you think?
Generally, I'm not a huge Miller fan. The first Dark Knight series is one of the things that got me into comics as a teenager, but I haven't liked much else of his. I glanced at 300 when it came through the library this past summer and was totally uninterested. I went to see the movie just to have something to do, and I was a little curious, and was surprised to actually like it.
